Who needs Alex Smith? Not the 49ers

Shaun Hill had another good game for the San Francisco 49ers, leading the team to their second straight win. Shaun finished the day 11 of 24 for 123 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception. That's good enough for a passer rating of 83.9.

I said it last week, but its worth mentioning again: dump Alex Smith. Shaun Hill represents the future of the franchise. With Hill at QB, the 49ers have a chance to win every game. Let's throw these Niners against the New England Patriots!

Watching Hill play in a couple of games, it becomes apparent that he won't be putting up 300-400 passing yards like a Kurt Warner or Peyton Manning. But Hill gets the touchdowns, and more importantly, the win. I stop for a minute and think to myself, could Alex Smith have had the same success?

The short answer: no. I feel the team was losing confidence in Alex Smith during the season, to the point where the other players weren't putting any real effort. Hill has revitalized the rest of the team and the team has given him their full support. There is no way the franchise can come out and admit any controversy at the quarterback position, but it exists.
