Warriors Reunion with Webber and Richardson

Golden State Warriors fans are treated to two reunions this week. The first is the return of Chris Webber to a Warriors uniform. The second is a visit from former Warriors player, Jason Richardson. While the Oracle Arena crowd's reaction to Webber will be mixed, there is no doubt that Jason Richardson will get a huge pop from the crowd. Richardson spent his first six NBA seasons with the Warriors while winning back to back slam dunk contests.

Chris Webber started his career at Golden State and helped Golden State make the playoffs, but he clashed with coach Don Nelson and Webber was subsequently traded away. Nelson also left the organization soon afterwards. That was the beginning of the 12 year playoff drought. With the return of Webber, the Warriors are looking to go deep into the playoffs.

But this is the NBA. Old, broken down big men with bad knees just can't bring it anymore, not at the hectic pace of the NBA schedule. Like Shaq. There are concerns that team chemistry will take a big hit with the inclusion of Webber, especially if Andris Biedrins loses playing time. The Webber acquisition will end up hurting the franchise more than it helps.

The other former Warriors player to return this week is Jason Richardson. Richardson was traded to the Charlotte Bobcats during the offseason for rookie Brandan Wright. Richardson's Bobcats makes their one and only appearance in Oakland this week. I know the return will be on Richardson's mind. Richardson is an explosive player and can easily drop 30 points a night. If his defender loses sight of him, look out for a dunk.

As a fan favorite in Golden State, the crowd is sure to erupt with cheers when Richardson is introduced. My best memories of him start with his back to back slam dunk contest wins, in 2002 and 2003. Richardson should have won it again in 2004, but he was unable to complete his high risk and difficult dunk attempt. Fred Jones won the 2004 competition by playing it safe. You suck Fred Jones. Richardson also played a huge role in the Warriors upset win over the Dallas Mavericks in the opening round of the playoffs. I hope the Golden State Warriors organization has enough class to hold a tribute or a mini-celebration in his honor.

They had that mini-tribute for Foyle, they will prob have one for JRich too.

Earl Boykins is also making a reunion trip. Boykins was signed by the Bobcats and should be playing on Friday.
