Those of us who watched the Lakers and Warriors meet in back to back games knew they were two of the most exciting games this season. The first game, played in Los Angeles, came down to Stephen Jackson making love to pressure. The second game was spoiled by a bad call that went against the Warriors with seconds to go in the 4th quarter of a close game. And the NBA has admitted that the call was incorrect.
Stu Jackson, executive vice president of basketball operations, has reviewed the play and has stated that "After looking at the play, the foul was on Fisher and not Ellis. It appeared that Fisher pulled Ellis down."
No one likes it when officials decide the outcome of a sporting event, but it sucks even more when the call is totally wrong. You know its a bad call when the other guy doesn't agree with the call. Here is an excert from the recap on Yahoo Sports.
"I thought it was going to be a no-call, just two guys fall down and the play goes on," [Derek] Fisher said. "So when the whistle blew, it caught me off-guard as well. ... I don't think anybody was necessarily guilty of anything, but from the angle that Bob had, it looked (Ellis) had his hands to my chest, which he did. But like I said, I wasn't trying to fall down at all in that situation."
The Warriors did not challenge the game with the league, so there will not be a replay of the final seconds. Challenge games like that isn't Don Nelson's style. He believes you go out there and play basketball. Whatever happens, happens.
Even though it sucks the way things went down, you have to move on. I wonder if the Phoenix Suns moved on after Robert Horry initiated a bench clear that left the Suns with a shortened roster during the playoffs...
