Giants experience both ends of a sweep

The Giants were able to experience a sweep on both ends.  Sweeping the Nationals brought ultimate joys while getting swept by the A's brought only misery and disappointment.

Tuesday, June 3, 2008 :: Giants 6 - Mets 9

The Mets bounced back from the shalacking they received the night before on Pedro Martinez's comeback start.  Martinez even had a few RBIs to help his cause as the Giants' Cy Young winner loses yet another game.

Wednesday, June 4, 2008 :: Giants 3 - Mets 5

Matt Cain was throwing gas; unfortunately, he was locating the pitches on the Mets' bats which is never a good thing.  The Mets claimed the series and sent the Giants on their way to a seven-game road trip.

Friday, June 6, 2008 :: Giants 10 - Nationals 1

The confidence the team has when Tim Lincecum is on the mound is tangible.  The Giants scored a boat-load of runs to give Lincecum an easy time as he cruised to his 8th win of the season.

Saturday, June 7, 2008 :: Giants 6 - Nationals 0

Sanchez was economical with his pitches this night and he was able to go deep into the game while keeping the Nationals run-less. John Bowker showed off his quick bat and power by hitting a grand slam in the sixth-run eighth inning.

Sunday, June 8, 2008 :: Giants 6 - Nationals 3

Zito wins a game! Zito wins a game!

Monday, June 9, 2008 :: Giants 3 - Nationals 2

The cards were not stacked in favor of Matt Cain winning this game. Zito's win the previous game all but used up any free luck the Giants had for this game.  Cain would have to pitch an outstanding game for him to have a chance to win and he did just that.  He had to sit through a few gut-wrenching innings as the Giants' relievers did all they could to lose the game. But, the win did come and it completed a sweep of the Nationals in Washington D.C.

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 :: Giants 5 - Rockies 10

Showing no signs of fooling the hitter, Pat Misch may well have pitched his last start as a Giant this season. The Rockies were all over Misch' throws, getting hits left and right. An easy win for the Rockies and a disappointing beginning for the Giants.

Wednesday, June 11, 2008 :: Giants 0 - Rockies 1

A dropped ball, a missed tag and the Giants lose in the bottom of the ninth one nil. Tim Lincecum and Ubaldo Jiménez were in an old-fashioned pitching duel, putting up zeros in each frame. A flyout to left field, Lewis squared up on the ball and threw a bullet home. Molina reached up with his glove and swiped at Atkins. It was a bang-bang play.  Unfortunately, the ball was rolling away in the background of the play.  Molina did not catch the ball.

Thursday, June 12, 2008 :: Giants 10 - Rockies 7

After an unprecedented one run game the day before, the two teams exploded for 17 runs in the game.  Jonathan Sanchez was wild and ineffective the entire day.  He gave up 7 runs in 5 innings.  It was a good thing the opposing pitcher gave up 8 runs in 3 innings.  With Ray Durham's 2000th career hit, the Giants go home happy.

Friday, June 13, 2008 :: Giants 1 - Athletics 5

The sprinklers turning on in the bottom of the ninth was the only high-note for Giants fan this night. Zito reverted back to his old self, walking batters to set up scoring chances for the A's and even walking home a run.  The night started out so well too with a surprising steal of home by Omar VIzquel.

Saturday, June 14, 2008 :: Giants 0 - Athletics 4

Matt Cain had another outstanding game, striking out 11 batters in seven innings while giving up only three runs.  Unfortunately, the opposing pitcher, Rich Harden, did not have to face the A's lineup.  The Giants were only able to get one hit off of Harden for the six innings he pitched which resulted in them getting shutout and Cain getting another tough luck loss.

Sunday, June 15, 2008 :: Giants 3 - Athletics 5

The A's completed the sweep of the Giants on Kevin Correia's first start since going on the DL earlier this season. Correia was not able to locate his pitches well and the A's made the necessary adjustments to tag him for four runs in the 5th, effectively putting the game out of reach for the hapless Giants' offense.
