Devil honors pact; Rockies going to World Series

The Colorado Rockies completed a four game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League Divisional Series to punch their tickets to the 2007 MLB World Series. Combined with the Rockies' three game sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies in the opening round, the Rockies have not lost a game in the post-season. In fact, the Rockies have won 21 of their last 22 games. When you consider how the Rockies were one of the worst teams in the league last year, things become glaringly clear.

The Colorado Rockies made a pact with the Devil. It is unknown at this point who signed the deal, but most low level demons are saying Helton. Todd Helton, the family man, would not seem to be your typical Devil dealer. Helton entered the 2007 Major League Baseball season as the active player with the most games played without reaching the playoffs. Helton has a career batting average of 0.322, but that number is tainted with the thin mountain air and hitter friendly park in Colorado. Helton played his entire career with the Colorado Rockies, a farm system for the rest of the league. His chances of reaching the World Series legitimately were slim to none, until he saw wicked red flames...

Todd had an interesting sports career. Helton played both football and baseball at Knox Central High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. Helton received a scholarship to the University of Tennessee for both football and baseball. At Tennessee, Helton was the second string quarterback, behind Jerry Colquitt but ahead of third string quarterback, Peyton Manning. Yes, the Indianapolis Colts' Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning was the backup quarterback behind Helton. After injuries to both Colquitt and Helton, Manning got his start and never relinquished. That made Todd Helton focus on baseball only.

One could wonder if the deal is only for the World Series, or if it involves the Hall of Fame as well. Helton has 3 golden gloves and very high batting averages. There are some early talk about Hall of Fame considerations, but it is still too early to tell. At this point in his career, Helton does not have a great chance of being inducted in the Hall of Fame. If he wins a championship this year, that may add to his resume and increase his chances, but it is still no guarantee.

The question remains, what did Helton promise in return for his deal? Most deals of this nature require giving up one's first born, but that stipulation requires the first born to yet be conceived. Helton already has a daughter. It would not make sense for the deal to involve the Rockies organization, as even the Prince of Darkness would not want anything to do with those losers. No one knows for certain, but everything will play out in the next month, and all will be clear.
