Bengie Molina does it again.
With a runner in scoring position, Molina slapped a single down the left field line to score Randy Winn from second to give the Giants a 3-2 lead.
Brian Wilson bounced back from his blown save the night before to collect his 10th save with a little bit drama thrown in to keep things interesting.
The Philadelphia Phillies ballpark, Citizen Bank Park, is a joke. The city isn't up on top of a mountain like Colorado, but balls jump out of the park at an exponential rate. One can see why Chase Utley is the homerun leader as even popups have a chance to leave the field.
Today, Utley golfed a ball into the air that seemed to just get blown into the center field seats. Geoff Jenkins had a solo shot that would have been a double in many other stadiums but end up in the stands at the park.
The only way for the Giants to counter a slugging team like the Phillies is with good pitching. Matt Cain came through on his end with seven solid innings of 3-hit ball. Unfortunately, two of those hits were homeruns. But, he did not make many mistakes in terms of walking batters or getting too deep into counts.
Brett Myers of the Phillies matched Cain step for step, striking out 10 Giants in 7 innings. He was locating his pitches well and his curveball was nasty. He really worked over the Giants lineup especially the 6-8 hitters, striking them out a total of 7 times.
Looking past the homeruns and the solid pitching, the game came down to the clutch performance by Molina. A graphic was thrown up in the previous game showing Molina hitting at a .444 clip past the 7th inning. And Giants fans know that he really digs in when there is a runner in scoring position and he came through again tonight to give the Giants a 3-2 win.
Tomorrow's game between Tim Lincecum and Cole Hamels will be a great game to watch.
