GO GIANTS!

Sunday, May 25, 2008 :: Giants 6 - Marlins 8

Pat Misch looks unimpressive once again. With no out pitch and lack of movement on his pitches, Misch reliance on his control is paramount. When his control wavers, the opposing hitters are treated to a game of t-ball which the Marlins did in this game to a tune of seven runs in 4 1/3 innings. The Giants made a valiant effort, especially by Bengie Molina, but they could not keep up with the Marlins.

Sunday, May 25, 2008 :: Giants 4 - Marlins 5

Matt Cain is cursed. Having pitched six innings, Cain left the game with a 4-2 lead going into the seventh. The bullpen promptly imploded and the Marlins came back to win the game 5-4.

Tuesday, May 27, 2008 :: Giants 6 - Diamondbacks 3

When the Giants are in a skid, they can always turn to the kid to right the ship. Tim Lincecum was masterful in his battle with Dan Haren of the Diamondbacks, outdueling him for the entire night. Molina continued his hot streak, hammering a ball into the left-center seats in the 3rd inning for a 3-run shot.

Wednesday, May 28, 2008 :: Giants 11 - Diamondbacks 3

The veterans on the club are coming through for the Giants lately. Molina has been scorching the leather off the ball the entire road trip and Aarond Rowand is getting into his groove as well. Ray Durham showed he still had a little juice left in his tank, driving in 4 runs on the night. Jonathan Sanchez made sure to not get caught up in Lincecum's shadow and put together one of his better starts of the season, giving up only 2 runs in 6 innings.

Thursday, May 29, 2008 :: Giants 4 - Diamondbacks 3

On a night where Randy Johnson moved forward in accomplishing another milestone, another Randy played the role of spoiler. Randy Winn, the unmentioned solid player, started off the Giants' scoring with a homer to deep left in the 4th off Johnson. Then in the top of the 9th, Winn came through with his second homer of the game to give the Giants a 4-3 lead. Brian Wilson came into the ninth and set the Diamondbacks down in order to notch his NL-leading 16th save and give the Giants a sweep.

Friday, May 30, 2008 :: Giants 3 - Padres 7

The San Diego Padres are the kings of playing extra inning games. They had another one this night, going 13 innings to beat the Giants at AT&T Park. Matt Cain was lucky this night. He was facing off against the legendary Greg Maddux for the third time this season. His previous two were a loss and a no-decision. The night was turning out to another loss for the hard-luck Cain, but the Giants amazingly scored a tying run in the 7th to take him off the hook. Unfortunately, the lack of available arms in the bullpen forced the Giants to remain with Billy Sadler when he looked out of sorts. The Padres end up scoring 4 times in the 13th to put the game away.

Saturday, May 31, 2008 :: Giants 1 - Padres 5

I was not able to catch this game but reading the recap shows Misch was able to keep the team in the game for the most part but the Giants offense just decided not to show up.

Sunday, June 1, 2008 :: Giants 4 - Padres 3

The Giants silent bats were down and out for the count for most of the game. Randy Wolf had stymied the Giants offense for much of the night. Tim Lincecum's control was not as sharp as in his previous starts but he was able to limit the Padres to one run in seven innings. With the game going into extra innings, the Padres received a huge boost from Adrian Gonzalez who hit a two-run homer off Alex Hinshaw in the top of the 10th. In the bottom of the 10th against longtime closer Trevor Hoffman, Durham and Brian Horwitz got two singles. Vizquel bunted the two over and Fred Lewis cleaned them up with a triple off the bench. After Winn was intentionally walked, Jose Castillo hit a potential inning-ending double play ball. Bochy had Winn running on the pitch and the shortstop had no where to go. Lewis came in to win the ballgame.

Monday, June 2, 2008 :: Giants 10 - Mets 2

The high from the previous game energized the Giants to continue from where they left off. Randy Winn began the game with his 14th career leadoff homerun. Molina singled home Rowand. Durham doubled in Rich Aurilla and Molina. And inning was capped off by Horwitz's first major league homerun. With the 6-0 lead, Sanchez was able to work around Umpire Tim Mcclelland's small strikezone and ended up with a decent night. He threw seven innings of 2-run ball with eight strikeouts. He also helped his cause with a two-run double off the right-field archway to end the Mets' hopes of ever coming back. Sadler finished the last two innings of the game and showed off a 97mph pinpoint heater and a nasty 12-6 curveball.
